Vol. 114 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Arterial Drainage and the Shannon Scheme.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether consultations have taken place between the Electricity Supply Board and the Office of Public Works for the purpose of exploring the possibilities of utilising the major schemes of arterial drainage so as to make available additional water storage reserves for the Shannon generating station.

Consultations have taken place between the Electricity Supply Board and the Office of Public Works in regard to the possible effects of major schemes of arterial drainage in the Shannon Basin generally on the Electricity Supply Board's water suplies for power production. The Brosna works now in progress cannot provide additional water storage reserves for the Shannon generating station. It is anticipated that the same position will hold in the other sub-catchments of the Shannon Basin.
