Vol. 115 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pension Committee Area.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the cause of the delay in having the parish of Moycullen, County Galway, transferred to the Oughterard Old Age Pension Committee's area.

The Galway County Council and the County Galway Old Age Pension Committee communicated with my Department on the 17th and 19th January last, respectively, the county council seeking approval for the proposed transfer of the parish of Moycullen and the latter regarding the consequential revision of the salaries of the clerks to the sub-committees concerned.

My Department informed the committee on the 3rd March that the revision of the clerks' salaries was entirely a matter for itself, within the limit of the total sum determined by the Minister for Finance as applicable to the remuneration of clerks of sub-committees throughout the whole area served by the committee. The committee was asked to inform my Department of any proposed revision.

On learning recently that there was some doubt as to whether the Department's letter of 3rd March approved the transfer of the parish of Moycullen, I caused a letter to be sent to the county council expressly sanctioning the proposal.
