Vol. 115 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Minane Bridge Reclamation Scheme.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he will state what progress has been made with the Minane Bridge reclamation scheme and when work is likely to start on the project.

In reply to a previous question by the Deputy, I explained that this matter presents many engineering difficulties. The repair of the old embankments is not a satisfactory proposition and, as an alternative, the Land Commission have under consideration a proposal to erect a barrage, with sluice gates, at the mouth of the river. The technical difficulties involved, which are considerable, have not yet been finally settled, but the matter is being expedited to the utmost.

Can the Minister give any indication as to when the work will be started?

I am sorry, I could not.
