Vol. 115 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Reclamation Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he will state (a) when he hopes to be in a position to announce the full details of the land reclamation scheme; (b) when the necessary proposals for legislation are likely to be introduced; and (c) the percentage of the total cost of the scheme which it is anticipated will be used up in administrative expenses.

The announcement of the full details of the land rehabilitation project must await the enactment of certain legislation by Dáil Éireann. I introduced the necessary Bill yesterday. Meanwhile, as announced by advertisement in the Press of June 1st, that part of the project which can go ahead without legislation has been put into operation in Counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Wicklow, Wexford, Louth, Monaghan, Leitrim and Sligo.

With regard to (c), as the project is one of gradual operation extending over a period of years, it is not possible at present to say what percentage of the total cost will be used up in administrative expenses.
