Vol. 116 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Control of Manufactures Act.

asked the Taoiseach if, in view of the fact that the Control of Manufactures Act precludes Irish citizens born in the Six Counties occupied by British forces from carrying on manufacturing business in the portion of our territory under the effective control of the Oireachtas, the Government will consider the introduction of proposals for the necessary legislation to remedy this position.

I am aware of the fact that persons born and resident in the Six Counties are precluded by the Control of Manufactures Acts from carrying on manufacturing business in the rest of the country except by licence granted under the Acts. It has for some time past been the practice, however, to give special and favourable consideration to persons born or resident in the Six Counties in the issue of such licences. This practice will continue pending the consideration of certain difficulties, including the difficulty to which the Deputy refers, which arise in the administration of the Control of Manufactures Acts.
