Vol. 116 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage Workers' Holidays.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that workers on the field drainage scheme in County Galway have to work on bank holidays and have no annual leave unlike county council and other similar workers; and, if so, whether he will consider granting them these holidays and annual leave.

Yes. I am aware that workers on my Department's special farm drainage scheme in Counties Galway and Mayo work on bank holidays. They do not, however, work on Church holydays. As regards the second part of the question, it is unlikely that this scheme will be in operation much longer and, consequently, the matter of holiday arrangements is not one calling for review.
