Vol. 116 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bus Advertisements.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that non-nationals are in a position to censor the advertisements on Córas Iompair Éireann buses; and, if so, whether he will undertake to make representations to Córas Iompair Éireann on this situation at the earliest possible opportunity.

Though the matter to which the Deputy refers is not one in which the Minister for Industry and Commerce has any function, inquiries regarding it have been made from Córas Iompair Éireann. I understand that there is an arrangement of long standing with a cinema organisation under which that organisation takes week by week substantial space in buses for advertising places of entertainment and the arrangement provides that space in the buses in which the organisation is advertising will not be allotted at the same time for advertising matter relating to other comparable forms of entertainment. About two months ago application was made for space to advertise an entertainment in buses but it is understood that under the arrangement to which I have referred this application had to be refused. I propose to ask Córas Iompair Éireann to examine this arrangement again and to consider the justification for its continuance.
