Vol. 116 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pay of Mental Nurses.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state how the scales of pay for mental nurses in this country compare with those in operation in the United Kingdom under the Rushcliffe scheme.

Any comparisons between the scales of pay of classes in this country and of corresponding classes in the United Kingdom which do not take account of the wider considerations of conditions of employment other than pay, which are of particular importance in the cases of nurses, and of the still wider considerations of levels of taxation, amenities and standards of living in the two countries generally, must necessarily be misleading, and it is not possible to make a comprehensive comparison within the compass of a reply to a Parliamentary question.
