Vol. 117 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Soil-Testing Centre.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he will consider establishing a soil-testing centre at Castlefreke, Clonakilty, County Cork.

I do not propose to establish a soil-testing centre at Castlefreke, Clonakilty, County Cork. Soil-testing facilities are provided at Johnstown Castle Agricultural College, Wexford. These facilities are being extended and are expected to be able to meet the demand for some time to come. When this centre has reached its maximum capacity for soil testing it is proposed to establish additional soil-testing centres at my Department's agricultural schools at Athenry, County Galway; Ballyhaise, County Cavan; and Clonakilty, County Cork. It is not anticipated that more centres than that will be needed.
