Vol. 117 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he has completed consideration of the representations made to him for an increase in the pensions of those members of the Defence Forces who were encouraged to take their discharge after the publication of the White Paper in 1945 and prior to the amendment of the Defence Forces pensions scheme on 2nd September, 1947, and if he can now inform Dáil Éireann whether he will be able to announce his decision in the matter prior to the 31st July.

The matter referred to by the Deputy is being actively considered in conjunction with the general question of granting increases to State pensioners. I am not, however, in a position to state when a decision will be arrived at.

Will the Minister agree that a very dirty trick was played upon the personnel referred to in the question and that consideration of the matter should be completed in their interest as quickly as possible?

There is no delay, but it involves a great number of others as well so that the rates will be in proportion.
