Vol. 117 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the Land Commission have served notice of their intention to vest the holdings in the tenants in the area around Lissananny, Kilconley, County Galway, Ref. A. and R. (Revesting) 26168/49, although most of the holdings there are still uneconomic; and, if so, whether he will state if such revesting will in any way debar those tenants from receiving additions in the event of the Land Commission acquiring and subdividing some of the large tracts of land in their parish.

The vesting of these lands does not preclude uneconomic holders from getting additions if other lands become available for distribution.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that vesting orders have been issued by the Land Commission on the tenants on the Charles T. O'Rourke estate, Clonberne, County Galway, and that the tenants have objected on the grounds that the necessary improvements have not been carried out as regards proper fencing and the making of a bog road into Clonberne bog which was only lock-spitted; and, if so, whether he will direct the Land Commission to have the necessary improvements carried out before proceeding further with the vesting.

The Land Commission vested about 60 allotments on the estate in December, 1948, and received no objections within the statutory period notified. The improvements sanctioned for lands have been carried out.

The bog in question has not yet been allotted. It is usual for the Land Commission to carry out certain improvements on bogs prior to allotment.
