Vol. 117 No. 2

Committee on Finance. - Vote 43—Dundrum Asylum.

I move:—

That a sum not exceeding £16,650 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending the 31st day of March, 1950, for the Expenses of the Maintenance, etc., of Criminal Lunatics in the Dundrum Asylum (8 and 9 Vict., c. 107; and No. 19 of 1945.)

Did the Minister give any consideration to the suggestion I made last year with regard to a visiting committee for this institution?

There is a committee at the moment which visits the asylum at Dundrum.

Under whose jurisdiction are they? Is it the Minister for Justice?

It is a question of having a visiting committee similar to that which visits prisons.

There is such a committee.

Under whose jurisdiction?

I appointed this particular one.

Since the last Estimate?

Vote put and agreed to.
Progress reported; Committee to sit again.
