Vol. 117 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emergency Medals.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state whether any medals have been issued to members of the L.D.F., L.S.F. and other auxiliary forces who served during the emergency, the date on which the first of these medals were issued and the date on which he expects to complete the work.

A small number of medals has been issued to members of the 2nd Line Volunteer Force and the L.D.F., 1941-1946. Issues were commenced on the 25th May, 1949. It is hoped within the next few weeks to increase considerably the rate of issue to personnel of the former emergency services. It is not possible to say at this stage when the work will be completed but it is likely to occupy several months on account of the large numbers involved and the rate of production of medals.
