Vol. 117 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tram Services.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the widespread concern among the travelling public in the district at present served by the Nos. 7 and 8 trams, he will request Córas Iompair Eireann to announce immediately the proposed departure time of the last service to and from Dalkey and the proposed city terminus of this service.

I understand that Córas Iompair Eireann have been in negotiation with the union on this question and, following agreement, they have now announced that the departure time of the last buses on all city services will be 11.30 p.m. I am informed that the company do not propose to make any alteration in the city terminus of the Dalkey service.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary satisfied that this new arrangement will compensate those who had been using the trams hitherto and who were able to get trams from the Pillar up to 12.5 for Dún Laoghaire and 12.15 for Blackrock, and can he make any statement with regard to the question of the terminus?

In reply to the first part of the Deputy's supplementary question, I hope that the new time-table will prove satisfactory. It is the same for all city services and, while it is true that the last bus is earlier than the time of the last tram, as the Deputy is aware, during the emergency, all services, including trams, were curtailed and since then the buses have operated on an earlier schedule than the trams. My answer to the second part of the supplementary question is that the city terminus is the same.
