Vol. 117 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Drainage.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when it is proposed to begin drainage work on the catchment areas of the Feale and Brick and Cashen Rivers.

The River Feale catchment area which includes the Rivers Brick and Cashen is the third major catchment in the order of priority for arterial drainage, the first being the Brosna, where operations are in progress, and the second the Glyde and Dee, the scheme for which will be on exhibition next month. The preparation of a scheme for the Feale catchment is well advanced, and, while I cannot at this stage give any precise date for commencement, I can assure the Deputy that work will be commenced as soon as possible.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that there is an impression in Kerry that the Brick and Cashen scheme was No. 2 on the list of the late Government?

As I said in my reply, it is the third major catchment in the order of priority and that is the priority it had on the list handed to me when I came in. It was never second.
