Vol. 117 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rates on Agricultural Land.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will introduce proposals for legislation to increase the present grant of £3,000,000 for the relief of rates on agricultural land as the rates on agricultural land have increased considerably during the last year.

The Deputy appears to be under a misapprehension as to the effects of the provisions of the Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Act, 1946, as extended by the Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Acts, 1947, and 1948, which now govern the application of the agricultural grant and provide for an increase in the grant for every increase in the gross rate on agricultural land. In my speech on the Estimate for the Department of Local Government I stated that the agricultural grant for the current year was estimated at £3,910,000.
