Vol. 117 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Green Belts.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state what areas in County Dublin are "green belts" for the purpose of town planning and why such areas have been so scheduled.

The area in County Dublin described for town planning purposes as the "green belt" consists of the outer area of countryside, varying between four to six miles in width, surrounding the urban and "urban fringe" areas of Dublin County Borough and Dun Laoghaire Borough. The suggested creation of a "green belt" area was adopted by the Dublin Corporation in December, 1940, on the recommendation of their town planning consultants and the town planning committee of the corporation.

In the Town Planning Report made by the corporation's consultants it is stated that the inner limits of the "green belt" were determined as lying beyond existing or easily extended services. The outer limit corresponds with the county boundary, except in the north of the county.
