Vol. 117 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Delay in Teachers' Salary Increases.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware that the national teachers are dissatisfied and impatient because of the delay in increasing their salaries, and whether he can now say when the increases will be announced and the date from which they will take effect.

I have been formally informed by their organisation that national teachers are dissatisfied and impatient that no action has yet been taken arising out of the report of the Roe committee.

The Government has not yet completed its consideration of that report. I am hoping that it will be able to do so soon. But until that consideration has been completed I shall not be in a position to make any statement in the matter.
