Vol. 117 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Workers—Numbers Employed.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) the number of road labourers, and (b) the number of men in a supervisory capacity employed by local authorities during each of the years 1946-47, 1947-48 and 1948-49.

The information sought by the Deputy is not available in the Department. Monthly returns are furnished to the Department showing the total number of men employed on roads and bridges, but no distinction is made between ordinary labourers and supervisory workers. The average monthly employment on roads was as follows:—

1946-47

18,609

1947-48

21,148

1948-49

24,239
