Vol. 117 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Protective Covering for Road Workers.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that many local authorities have failed to provide protective covering for road workers and if it is his intention to make compulsory the provision of protective clothing by all local authorities.

I am not aware that the position is as stated by the Deputy in his question. County councils have been encouraged to provide protective clothing for their road workers and I understand that all of them have done so, to some extent. I have no powers of compulsion in this matter, but if the Deputy will let me have particulars of any cases of hardship I will bring them to the notice of the local authorities concerned.
