Vol. 117 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Applications for Medals.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number of applications from members of the 3rd Tipperary Brigade, I.R.A., for military service medals which have not been dealt with, and if it is intended to expedite the investigation of any such outstanding applications.

There are 37 applications for medals from members of the Third Tipperary Brigade, I.R.A., on which decisions have not yet been reached in the absence of verification of membership. Every effort is being made to obtain information from former officers of the brigade in these cases.

Would the Minister say that where a former officer fails to verify or to answer correspondence the applicant will be notified to that effect, with a view to substituting the evidence of another officer?

In every case where insufficient verification is obtained the applicant is notified to that effect. If he can get alternative substantiation of his claim it is open to him to do so. That applies in every case.
