Vol. 117 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dismissals for I.R.A. Activity.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce how many employees of the then Great Southern and Western Railway Company were discharged from their employment during the period 1916-1923 because of their I.R.A. activities, and if it is intended to compensate them for loss of employment.

I am informed by Córas Iompair Éireann that records are not available from which complete information can be extracted.

So far as can be ascertained all persons discharged from railway employment during the period 1916-1923 because of their I.R.A. activities, who applied for reinstatement at the appropriate time were re-employed. The period of any such absences is included when calculating railway service for pension purposes.

If particulars of specific cases are given to the Minister, will he be prepared to take the necessary steps to bring them into line with the others?

If there are specific cases, I think they should be more properly sent to Córas Iompair Éireann.
