Vol. 118 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dismissal of Forestry Worker.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he will reconsider the dismissal of forestry worker Mr. Thomas Whelan and arrange for his re-employment with the forestry division at Graiguenamanagh state forest with a view to alleviating the hardship caused to this worker and his family by reason of the dismissal.

I have already informed the Deputy that I had fully considered Mr. Whelan's case. I do not see what further can be done.

Will the Minister state if there is any obstacle to the reemployment of Mr. Whelan at the moment?

From the Department point of view there is none whatever. I understand that this is one of many cases that occur wherever work is proceeding. Sometimes a workman loses his temper and says something that causes friction between himself and the foreman or the ganger, but there is no obstacle whatever. Personally, I would like to see this man having a bit of common-sense and making his peace with the foreman and returning to his work.
