Vol. 118 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Water Shortage.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that there is a grave shortage of water in Clonsilla and Blanchardsdown; and, if so, whether he will arrange to have the North County Dublin regional water scheme started as soon as possible in order to prevent future shortages.

The regional scheme was approved in principle last April. Plans since received have been the subject of consultations between the Department and the local authorities concerned. I expect to be in a position to convey a decision on the plans to the county council within a week. Meanwhile, arrangements are in progress for the provision of a temporary supply for the Blanchardstown area. The plans submitted by the county council for the regional supply do not extend to Clonsilla and no proposals for that area have been submitted so far.

Is not Blanchardstown in the regional area? Will it not be serviced by the North County Dublin regional water scheme?

We are making arrangements for a temporary supply for Blanchardstown. As I indicated in the reply, the area to which the plans for the regional supply do not extend is Clonsilla.
