Vol. 118 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Houses Built this Year.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the number of houses completed in each month of this year, distinguishing between those erected by local authorities and by private builders; and also the number, distinguishing in the same way, now under construction, and which it is anticipated will be completed by December 31st of this year.

The information is in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, will be circulated in the Official Report.

The numbers of houses completed in each month of the present year by (1) local authorities, and (2) private persons and public utility societies with State assistance, respectively, were as follows:—

House under construction at the end of September by local authorities totalled 10,159. It is estimated that about 5,250 houses were in progress at that date by private persons and public utility societies with State assistance and that certificates of approval had been issued in respect of a further 850 which should be begun at an early date.

I am unable to say how many of these houses under construction will be completed by the end of the present calendar year—much will depend on the weather factor.
