Vol. 118 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Sanatoria.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the present position concerning the provision of the new sub-regional sanatorium at Ard-Keen, County Waterford, and when site development work is likely to commence.

The arrangements for the placing of the contract have been practically completed. I am pleased to be in a position to inform the Deputy that I understand the contract will be signed to-day or in the course of the next couple of days. Site development work will be commenced, therefore, almost immediately.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state (a) the present position concerning the proposed erection of a regional sanatorium in Blanchardstown, County Dublin; (b) the size of the proposed institution; (c) the approximate cost, and (d) when site development works are likely to commence.

I have accepted the tender of Messrs. Hussey, Egan and Pickmere (Ireland), Limited, for site development works at the Dublin Regional Sanatorium, Blanchardstown, County Dublin.

The proposed institution has been planned to contain 508 beds and to accommodate about eight doctors, 150 nurses and the requisite domestic staff in 30 separate buildings on a site of about 240 acres.

The approximate cost of the sanatorium is expected to be in the region of £1,400,000.

Site development works were commenced by the contractors this week.
