Vol. 118 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Upkeep of Courthouses.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he received a copy of a resolution from the Kerry County Council to the effect that the upkeep of courthouses should be made a national charge because of the heavy financial burden which it imposes on local authorities; and, if so, whether he has given the matter consideration, and with what result.

I have received a copy of the resolution referred to. This matter was fully considered in 1935, when the Courthouses (Provision and Maintenance) Act was enacted and I am not satisfied that any change in the law is warranted

Has the Minister communicated that decision to the Kerry County Council?

No, not yet; I am giving it to the Deputy first.
