Vol. 118 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Removal of Sand at Ballybunion.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make available to North Kerry Deputies a copy of the report of the inspector who conducted the public inquiry last February into the removal of sand from the foreshore at Ballybunion.

I have issued to the local bodies concerned and to the Press a summary of the report made by the inspector who conducted the inquiry into the removal of sand from the foreshore at Ballybunion. This summary covers the proceedings at the inquiry, the list of people who gave evidence, the configuration of the area and the inspector's conclusions and recommendations.

I have now caused copies of the summary to be placed in the Dáil Library for the information of any Deputies who may be interested. The report is a confidential document and I would not feel warranted in supplying copies of it to Deputies or other interested persons.

Is the Minister aware that now, for the first time, by virtue of this report, the farmers in North Kerry who get sand from the Ballybunion foreshore for manurial purposes will be compelled to get licences?

Is that arising out of the report?

In whatever way it arises, that is the position. I want to know where they are going to get these forms. Is it at the local barracks or at any Garda station?

The Deputy may take it that the necessary forms will be made available at a convenient place.

The Minister has not answered my supplementary question fully. The farmers who go to Ballybunion for sand will need to know where exactly they are to get these forms, whether they can get them at the local Garda barracks or will they have to wait until they go to Ballybunion to get them at the barracks there, or whether they can get them at post offices.

I will undertake that that information will be made available to the people concerned.
