Vol. 118 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Manufacture of Farm Forks.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether steel-pronged farm forks imported from Sweden and Canada have to be paid for in dollars; and, if so, whether, in order to save dollars and safeguard the home manufacturers who are in a position to supply the full requirements of the home market, he will request the Industrial Development Authority to treat their examination of this question as a matter of urgency.

Imports of farm forks from Canada would have to be paid for in dollars, and those from Sweden in Swedish kroner.

As I stated in my reply to the Deputy's question on the 9th November, the examination of this question cannot be proceeded with in the absence of information which the Industrial Development Authority asked the manufacturers concerned to supply in August last.
