Vol. 118 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment in Navan Factory.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that a small number of employees of the Nash Manufacturing Company, Navan, makers of agricutural implements, have been dismissed; and, if so, whether he will state when he will be in a position to take effective measures to protect this industry.

I am not aware of the dismissal of employees by the Nash Manufacturing Company, Navan. As I stated in my reply to a question asked by the Deputy on the 9th November, the Industrial Development Authority are investigating the case made by this company and other manufacturers for protection, and are awaiting information promised by the manufacturers in August last.

Did the Minister make any inquiries as to whether employees were dismissed by this firm or not? I can tell him that a small number were.

All I can say is that I have no information that any employees have been dismissed. So far as there is any delay in the examination and consideration of this matter, and of coming to a decision on it, it is due entirely to the manufacturers themselves, who were asked in August last to supply certain information to the Industrial Development Authority. The Industrial Development Authority has not got the information yet.

My information is that they have got it. I do not know how true that is.

Would the Deputy tell me who informed him of that?
