Vol. 118 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grant for Swimming Baths.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the amount of the capital grant which the Government proposes to make to the Dublin Corporation for the erection of swimming baths at Rathmines at an estimated cost of £275,000.

In May, 1948, the corporation were informed that the selected site and outline proposals furnished in connection with the proposed provision of a swimming pool at Rathmines appeared to be generally in order and that the preparation of detailed plans, etc., might be put in hands. No communication has since been received in my Department regarding the matter and I have no information regarding the estimated cost of the work or when the corporation intend to proceed with it. There has been no decision in regard to a State grant nor can the question be considered until such time as the corporation are in a position to proceed with the work. The Deputy will, of course, be aware that the corporation are at present concentrating their energy and resources on very urgent housing, sanitary and health programmes.
