Vol. 118 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Replacement of Metal Bridge, Dublin.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) the cause of delay in proceeding with the scheme for the replacement of the Metal Bridge, Dublin, in view of the fact that it was stated a year ago that materials would be available within six months, and (b) the present position regarding the erection of a new bridge over the Liffey, east of the Customs House.

The planning of bridges over the River Liffey in Dublin City is a matter for the corporation and the Port and Docks Board. There are no current proposals before the Department in the matter but the Deputy will remember that in replying to previous questions I indicated that a special traffic census was being taken in connection with the planning of city bridges. This census has now been taken and I understand it is at present being analysed.

Mr. Byrne

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the census was taken nearly six months ago?

I am not so aware.

Mr. Byrne

It is nearly six months since the census was taken. You might speed them up on the work.

I suggest the Deputy should take up the matter with the Dublin Corporation.

Mr. Byrne

I am not able to do that. I ask the Parliamentary Secretary to do it.
