Vol. 118 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Housing Plans.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) the present position concerning the provision of additional housing in the central Dublin City area; and (b) what schemes for the building of flats are in contemplation for that area.

(a) Schemes comprising a total of 797 new flats and 261 reconditioned flats are at present in progress in the central Dublin City area, while sites have been acquired within that area on which the erection of 400 flats and 20 cottages will be undertaken.

(b) In addition to the sites mentioned under (a) the Dublin Corporation have proposals in course of formulation for the acquisition of a site for 200 flats, and the acquisition and clearance of further sites for approximately 1,300 flats.

Will the Minister urge on the corporation the desirability of proceeding without delay with the clearance of the sites in the Meath Street and Francis Street area?

Is the Minister aware that that area is already cleared, and that for two years the corporation have been drawing up sketch plans?
