Vol. 119 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Commission Employees.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware of the dissatisfaction existing amongst employees of the Land Commission on the Shaen Carter Estate, County Mayo, due to the fact that the men originally employed on a weekly wage basis have been informed that, as the work has been costing too much, they will be placed on piece work which will result in a lowering of their earnings; and, if so, whether, in view of the hardship which would be imposed on the workers by the adoption of a piecerate system, he will arrange for the re-adoption of the guaranteed weekly wage system.

The improvement works on this estate are not being done by Land Commission employees. The benefiting tenants have undertaken the work with the aid of Land Commission assistance.
