Vol. 119 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork City Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the number of houses in actual course of erection (a) by direct labour, and (b) under contract, by the Cork Corporation and the number which it is estimated will have been completed (i) in the first half of this year, and (ii) in the second half of this year.

The number of houses in course of erection on the 31st January, 1949, by the Cork Corporation, was 351, of which 145 were being erected by direct labour and 206 by contract.

The corporation estimate that 120 houses will have been completed in the first half of this year and a further 146 houses in the second half.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the number of applicants on the waiting lists for Cork Corporation houses.

I understand that the total number of current applications received by the Cork Corporation for houses is 5,225, but that this figure is likely to be reduced to approximately 3,000 when the eligibility of the applicants comes to be assessed.
