Vol. 119 No. 8

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 7, 9 and 11. It is proposed to interrupt business on No. 7 from 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock to take Nos. 9 and 11. If Nos. 9 and 11 are finished before 8 o'clock, No. 7 will be resumed.

Mr. Byrne

May I give notice that I would like to raise on the Adjournment the question of the bus stoppage in the City of Dublin merely for the purpose of asking the Minister if he has any announcement to make in view of the sufferings of the public?

I have no announcement to make because I have no function in the matter.

Mr. Byrne

With your permission, I would like to raise——

The matter cannot be raised if the Minister has no function.

Mr. Byrne

Then our hands are tied.

The Chair did not tie them. The rules of the House did.

Mr. Byrne

It is a new matter for the Dáil if we cannot raise a question of 50,000 or 60,000 people not being able to get to and from their work.

While it may be true that the Minister for Industry and Commerce has no function in this matter, surely the Government has some responsibility. As I understood Deputy Byrne, he did not indicate any particular Minister, but desired to raise this matter, which is one of public importance and concerning which the Government may have some view to express.

Is it good work for this country to be dictated to by another country in regard to transport in this country? Let the Minister answer that.

Up the republic!

You are learning.

I will consider the point raised by Deputy Lemass. It should be addressed to some Minister.

Mr. Byrne

I merely want a statement to the public that their welfare is being looked after. That will satisfy me.
