Vol. 120 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Agricultural Credit Corporation.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state for the financial year 1948-49 and for the present financial year up to the latest date for which figures are available (a) the total number of applications for loans received by the Agricultural Credit Corporation in each year; (b) the total amount applied for in each year; (c) the number of cases in which loans have been given in each year, and (d) the total amount of the loans given in each year.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have it included in the Official Report.

Following is the reply:—

AGRICULTURAL CREDIT CORPORATION.

1948/49

1949/50

(1)

(2)

(a) Number of applications for loans received

2,310

1,762

(c) Number of cases in which loans have been given

788

694

(d) Amount of the loans given

£168,625

£259,070

The information asked for at (b) as to the total amount of the loans applied for is not available.

The above figures do not include loans under special schemes initiated by the Department of Agriculture (e.g., the heifer and agricultural machinery loan schemes and the scheme for the purchase of cattle and sheep arising out of the severe losses sustained by farmers in the winter of 1946-47).

(1) Twelve months ended 30th April, 1949.

(2) Period from 1st May, 1949, to 24th March, 1950.
