Vol. 120 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National and Agricultural Income.

asked the Taoiseach if he will now state the index figure for the net volume of agricultural output for the year 1949.

asked the Taoiseach if he will now state, in respect of the year 1949 (1) the total national income, and (2) the net agricultural income.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 2 and 3 together.

The statistics which the Deputy requires are at present being compiled, but the results are not yet available.

Could the Taoiseach indicate why there has been such great delay in the publication of these statistics? Within the present week similar statistics have been published in regard to the United Kingdom for the last year.

I do not think there is any delay in the matter. The Deputy will remember that the Statistics Office was reorganised recently and statistics are now being produced, I think, with a very considerable amount of regularity. The statistics which the Deputy asked for will be available in the course of a very short time.

One of the figures requested by Deputy Cogan is the figure for national income. We have not had that figure since 1944.

That has only been started since the office was reconstituted.
