Vol. 120 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mount Merrion (County Dublin) School.

Mr. Brady

asked the Minister for Education if he will state, with reference to Mount Merrion school (1) the number of (a) boys, (b) girls at present on the rolls; (2) the number of classrooms; (3) the number of teachers; and if he will further state whether he has received any representations regarding conditions in this school and whether it is proposed to provide more suitable schools in the near future.

The average number of pupils on the rolls of this school for the past quarter was 251 (127 boys and 124 girls). There are at present four class-rooms in the school and four teachers on the staff.

The school is being conducted in temporary premises. Representations have been made that these premises are not generally suitable for school purposes and that the accommodation available is inadequate for the present needs of the district. The adaptation of another room in the building to make it suitable for school purposes as a temporary arrangement is being examined.

I may add that preliminary steps are being taken to secure suitable sites for the new schools which will be required for this developing area.
