Vol. 120 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Cement.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware (a) that cement merchants are compelled to sell cement at a price fixed by Cement, Limited; (b) that if merchants sell at a price lower than that fixed by Cement, Limited, they are penalised and fined; and (c) that retailers of cement are prevented from selling small lots of less than one ton at the same rate as for ton lots; and, if so, whether he will have an investigation made with a view to the removal of these restrictions.

Cement, Limited, has fixed prices for cement on a zonal basis, there being eight zones for each of the two factories. The zones are fixed by reference to the distances from the factories and the prices vary as between one zone and another. I am having inquiries made into the other matters raised in the question.
