Vol. 120 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Railway Station Lighting Arrangements (Galway).

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the inadequate lighting arrangements at the railway stations at Gort and Ardrahan, County Galway, which cause serious inconvenience to the Córas Iompair Éireann employees and to the public generally; and, if so, whether he will request Córas Iompair Éireann to have their stations connected with Electricity Supply Board current in view of the fact that current is already being used at Gort for pumping water and is convenient to Ardrahan.

I am informed by Córas Iompair Éireann that the possibility of installing electric light at Ardrahan and Gort railway stations has been considered. Having regard to the limited amount of traffic at these stations, the company do not consider that the expense involved in installing electric light at either station would be justified. At both stations passenger trains are dealt with during daylight hours.
