Vol. 120 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Skibbereen and Bantry Housing Programmes.

Mr. Murphy

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give details of the progress made with regard to the housing programme for Skibbereen and Bantry and of the proposals made by the local authorities for the completion of their programmes.

The housing needs of the urban district of Skibbereen, according to the latest available survey, are 17 houses. A proposal by the council to provide eight houses on a site at Glencurragh has been approved, and layout and house plans are awaited. Proposals for a scheme of ten houses at Upper Bridge Street have been approved but the commencement of work on the scheme has been held up pending the provision of a water supply to serve the houses. This is at present under consideration by the council.

The housing needs of Bantry are estimated at 45 houses and the housing programme is being undertaken by the Cork County Council. Sites for 30 houses have been acquired. Layout and house plans have been approved for eight houses. A report from the council's engineer with regard to the water supply for the remaining 22 houses is awaited. It is understood that the council propose to acquire sites for a further 15 houses.
