Vol. 120 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laoighis Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether a scheme for the provision of houses for Abbeyleix, County Laoighis, sanctioned by the Laoighis County Council on April 11th, 1949, was submitted to his Department, and, if so, if he will state the date on which the plans were so submitted, the cause of the delay in commencing work on the scheme, and whether it is to be carried out by contract or direct labour.

A site for a scheme of 20 houses at Abbeyleix was included in a compulsory purchase order which was confirmed in March, 1949. The plans for the scheme, which were prepared by the consultant responsible for the design of housing schemes throughout the county, were submitted for approval in December, 1949. Following consultation between the council's engineer and the consultant, a revised layout plan was prepared which was submitted for approval on the 17th February last. The plans were approved on the 27th February last.

I understand that the council have not yet decided whether the scheme will be carried out by direct labour or by contract.
