Vol. 120 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Potatoes to Great Britain.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the terms of the contract for the sale of potatoes to Britain this year, the amount involved in the contract, the price agreed upon, whether the contract has yet been filled and where the potatoes were procured.

The agreement with the British Ministry of Food was for the sale of 50,000 tons of ware potatoes of the 1949 crop at £10 13s. 6d. per ton f.o.b. for potatoes loaded up to 31st January, 1950, and £11 8s. 6d. per ton f.o.b. for potatoes loaded after that date. The contract has not yet been filled, but shipments are still in progress. All the potatoes supplied to date have been procured in this country.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say if it is expected that the contract will be filled?

It is difficult to say at this stage, but up to the present approximately 22,000 tons have been supplied.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say when the last shipment took place?
