Vol. 120 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Water Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will now state when work on the North County Dublin regional water scheme will commence.

Plans for this scheme have been approved and contract documents are now being prepared by the local authorities. It is not, however, possible to say when work on the scheme will commence.

This scheme has been on the stocks for a long time. In the last two and a half to three years I have put down seven or eight questions on this matter, and I still receive the reply that it will be done at some stage. The answers are not very satisfactory. It is still under consideration. The Minister is not yet able to tell me when the North County Dublin regional water scheme will commence.

Is it not a fact that this scheme will not be completed for a period of at least five to six years?

Is Deputy Con Lehane now Minister for Local Government?

Further to the reply I have given, with the exception of the design of the reservoir floor, the outstanding matters relating to the detailed planning of the scheme have been disposed of and the local authority was informed on the 25th March of this year that the proposed scheme was otherwise in order. The area has been divided into three and the revised drawing was vetted. Approval has been given to this since it will result in greater expedition in the execution of the scheme.

Is it not a well-known fact that it will take five to six years to complete this scheme?

I am not in a position to say that.
