Vol. 120 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Male Cleaners' Pay.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the male cleaners employed by the Revenue Commissioners are entitled to be paid the sum of £4 6s. 6d. per week as per circular 29/1949; and, further, if he is aware that during the period from the issue of the circular until the 17th February, 1950, these men were only paid the sum of £3 18s. 6d. per week instead of the prescribed pay of £4 6s. 6d., and if he will arrange that the balance of the pay due to the men affected will be paid to them immediately.

The question appears to relate to six men who were recruited in October, 1949, as firelighters in the Revenue Commissioners' head office during the 1949-50 winter season. Through a misunderstanding the appropriate rate of wages was not immediately granted to these men. Arrangements have already been made to pay the arrears of wages.
