Vol. 120 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tourist Board's Tramore Properties.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the Irish Tourist Board have a large amount of land in Tramore, County Waterford, which is not being put to any use and is an eyesore to visitors; and, if so, whether he will ask the board to make this land available to the Tramore Town Commissioners at a reasonable price so that it could be used for town improvement schemes, and, in particular, recommend to the board that they loan, lease or sell to the commissioners the building known as the "Old Cinema" for use as a temporary town hall for Tramore.

The Tramore Town Commissioners had discussions last year with my Department about the acquisition of property from the Irish Tourist Board, and they were informed on 19th November last that if they submitted proposals, together with evidence of their powers to acquire and operate property in Tramore, I would have their proposals considered fully in consultation with the Irish Tourist Board. No such proposals or evidence were, in fact, submitted to me and I understand that the town commissioners have not since been in touch with the tourist board. If proposals are submitted to me by the town commissioners with the other information for which they were asked in November, I will have them considered.
