Vol. 121 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition and Division.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission intend to acquire the lands of Mrs. Minogue, Moanfin, Nenagh, County Tipperary, which were inspected by an official of his Department last October.

A decision is about to be taken in this matter.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the names of the estates, townlands and the approximate areas of holdings in South Tipperary (a) which the Land Commission have on hands for division at present, and (b) in respect of which acquisition or resumption proceedings have started and are proceeding.

(a) Apart from isolated plots, the Land Commission have over 1,300 acres on hands in South Tipperary.

(b) Proceedings have been instituted for the acquisition or resumption of approximately 1,570 acres in the area in question.

It would be undesirable to furnish any further details.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission have yet completed their inquiries regarding the proposed acquisition of the lands of Mrs. Halliday (deceased), Rathbrannagh, County Limerick; and, if so, what is the decision.

These lands have been inspected but a decision has not been reached on the question of acquisition.

Is the Minister aware that it is over two years since an inspection of this estate was made by the Land Commission and prospective allottees consulted by the inspector? Is the Minister further aware that, while Deputy Ó Briain, I and others have been asking about these lands, the Land Commission have consented to, or permitted the sale of these lands to Mr. Hogan, Lord Adare's agent, who had the grass previously for a number of years, and that happened while these indefinite and, may I be permitted to say, unsatisfactory replies have been forthcoming?

I am aware that inquiries were made and that questions were put on the 9th March, 1950, and on a prior date to that. The inquiries have been proceeding since and there has been no undue delay, believe it or not.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission have any proposal under consideration for the acquisition and division of the holding of Mr. Henry Hewson (or now Mr. Hatton Wilson), Ballinvirick, County Limerick; and, if so, what is the present position.

The Land Commission have decided not to institute proceedings for the acquisition of these lands.
