Vol. 121 No. 10

Supplementary Estimate. - Vote 14—Irish Tourist Board.

I move:—

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £15,000 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending the 31st day of March, 1951, for a Grant-in-Aid of the Irish Tourist Board (No. 24 of 1939).

For the sake of the record, I think the Minister should give some explanation of the need for this Supplementary Estimate. He has not done so. The Supplementary Estimate has been introduced, but nobody knows why and no explanation has been given on the face of the Estimate. I think there should be some reference to it for the purpose of the record.

Is it being opposed?

It is not being opposed.

The object of this Supplementary Estimate is to give us additional money for publicity purposes and for other services in connection with the Tourist Board. It will bring it to the maximum sum we can spend under the Act. As the Deputy is aware, £45,000 is the maximum sum. We are asking for the maximum sum to be spent this year by the addition of the £15,000 asked for in the Supplementary Estimate.

Vote put and agreed to.
Progress reported; Committee to sit again.
Supplementary Vote 14 reported and agreed to.
The Dáil adjourned at 5.45 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, 13th June, 1950.
