Vol. 121 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Improvements Scheme.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state, for the financial year 1949-50, the number of applications for rural improvements scheme grants received in respect of each county, the number sanctioned, the number of applications outstanding from previous years, the number of these sanctioned, and the total expenditure sanctioned.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

The following statement shows, for the year 1949-50, and in respect of each county, (a) the number of applications received, (b) the number of grants sanctioned, and (c) the total expenditure involved, covering State grants and local contribution.

The particulars given under (b) and (c) include sanctions in respect of applications outstanding from previous years, of which there were about 700 for the country as a whole at 1st April, 1949. From the records available, it would not be possible without very considerable investigation to segregate the number of sanctions relating to 1949-50 applications, and to those submitted prior to 1st April, 1949.
